15 Best Ways to Reinvent Yourself Right Now

by | Apr 15, 2020

Are you at a crossroads in your life and have the nagging feeling that you are meant for more?

Do you feel disappointed with yourself for not being the person you know you’re capable of?

Everyone feels this way from time to time. We are meant to grow and evolve over the course of our lives. Nobody stays the same forever. It’s impossible. But it’s how we make personal changes that make or breaks our life experience and how we feel about ourselves.

Most of us know in our heart of hearts that we aren’t being the best version of ourselves. We get in our own way and don’t play full out with our lives. We know we are ready to change and become the person we are meant to be, but it can feel overwhelming, so we give up.

To be the person you know you’re capable of requires that you reinvent yourself in INTENTIONAL ways. Become intentional in the choices you make and the thoughts you think. That is how you reinvent yourself to be the best you.

Here are the best intentional ways to reinvent yourself …

1. Believe in yourself

Reinventing your life starts with believing in yourself! Know that EVERY belief either helps or hurts you.

If you believe you’re capable of creating a life you love, then you will. If you believe you can’t, then you won’t. Simple as that.

This quote by Henry Ford is a bit overused and cliche but incredibly powerful – “whether you think you can or think you can’t – you’re right”. When you believe in yourself you can be, do, and have anything you want regardless of your circumstances.

2. Take it one step at a time

Don’t bite off more than you can chew! Be realistic about what can be accomplished at one time. Trying to change too many things about yourself and your life at once will lead to burnout and feeling discouraged.

Don’t set yourself up for failure. Break your goals down into small, manageable steps, and over time they will add up to the success of your goal.

3. Change your mindset

This is the foundation of a positive, successful life. You won’t be able to reinvent yourself if you’re hanging onto unhelpful and negative thoughts.

One of the most important mindsets you need to develop is a growth mindset.  If you are going to create a new and improved life you need to believe that you are capable of it. A growth mindset will give you the confidence to step out of your comfort zone, embrace challenges, and believe anything is possible for yourself.

4. Raise your standards

This is a BIG one! You will NEVER positively reinvent life if you accept less than the best from yourself. You are worthy of all life has to offer so start acting like it. This means raising the standards of what you’ll accept from others and YOURSELF.

We sabotage ourselves in various ways. If you want to change your life for the better, it’s crucial that you identify where your standards are low. Take an honest inventory of your life, particularly your habits. Keeping habits that don’t serve you is having a low standard for yourself.

Raise the bar starting NOW!

5. Be flexible

What does this mean? It means not being so rigid with your vision of what reinventing yourself will look like. If you try something new and don’t like it give yourself permission to ditch it and do something different. Be flexible!

For example, if you thought part of reinventing yourself meant joining a particular club and you hate it don’t force yourself to keep doing it simply because it was part of your “reinvention plan”! It’s totally ok to experiment!

6. Release what is not serving you

This is extremely important. You need to eliminate things that are holding you back from stepping into a new and improved life. Take an honest, careful inventory of your life.

Getting honest with yourself is crucial because you might find that it’s YOU that is holding you back. It’s easy to point the finger at others but ultimately, you are responsible for your life and choices.

Some examples of things that might not be serving you are habits, relationships, and unhelpful thought patterns.

7. Reflect on your life

Reinventing yourself starts with knowing what needs to be eliminated or added to your life. This takes getting 100% honest with yourself. What’s working well in your life? What’s not working? Taking a total inventory of your life will help you understand what you need to do to step into the new you!

You also want to consistently reflect throughout your reinvention journey. Ask yourself the same questions and be willing to adjust your plan if needed.

8. Explore new hobbies

Maybe you have some hobbies that you love and that’s great! I’m not suggesting you drop the activities that bring you joy but try something new.

Trying new things gives you the opportunity to see what’s out there. You might find you like something more suited to the new life you want to create. It will also give you a confidence boost and will challenge you because as humans we tend to do what is familiar.

As a HUGE bonus, you’ll become a more interesting person! Having various hobbies will give you more things to talk about with the new people you’re going to meet while reinventing yourself.

9. Let go of relationships that no longer serve you

Some people aren’t meant to be part of our life story forever. I truly believe people enter and leave our lives on time for various reasons. Maybe that’s the spirit junkie in me but I know it to be true in my life.

Releasing people and relationships that no longer serve you is necessary to reinvent yourself. Wasting time maintaining relationships that are weighing you down holds you back from creating the life you want. You could be using that valuable time to make plans and take the action necessary to make meaningful changes in your life.

10. Take steps toward your goals

If you want to reinvent yourself going after your goals is non-negotiable. The excuses that you’ve used in the past just won’t cut it if you want a new and improved life.

Saying you want something and doing it are two different things. You can talk about what you want all day long but without action, you’ll be talking about it for the rest of your life.

To become the person you want to be, taking consistent action is 100% necessary. Start today.

11. Don’t let others deter you

When you start to make changes in your life not everyone will be supportive. In fact, you’ll likely receive some push back or criticism. This happens for a variety of reasons but jealousy and fear are at the top of the list.

You do you! You get one life so please don’t live it for others or shrink in the face of criticism.

Surround yourself with those who will support you along your journey. You don’t have to justify your decision to reinvent yourself to anyone!

12. Create a life vision

It’s a nice idea that you want to expand and change your life. As humans, we are meant to grow and evolve. But do you even know what you want?

To reinvent yourself, become clear on exactly what you want for yourself. That is the only way you can create meaningful life changes.

You can do many things to change yourself and your circumstances, but it needs to align with your vision to get you where you want to go.

Getting clear on your life vision allows you to take the RIGHT steps to create the life you want and deserve.

13. Change the way you care for your physical health

Many of you might already make your health a priority. But is there a small change you can make that would take your health to the next level?

If you aren’t caring for yourself through diet and exercise is crucial that you start. Your life will totally change when you begin nourishing your body with healthy food and moving it. Not only will your physical appearance change but you will feel better. You will have more energy and enthusiasm to make the changes needed to reinvent yourself.

Get those endorphins flowing!

14. Make your mental health a priority

Caring for your mental health needs to be a priority – always! It’s just as important as caring for your body.

I bet when you think of your new life you envision being happy. After all, nobody wants to create a life of misery! That doesn’t make sense.

To make happiness your reality you need to take responsibility for your mental well-being. This can be done in a variety of ways: practice self-care, seek professional help, set boundaries, exercise, make yourself a priority, and have new experiences.

Consistently checking in with yourself will help keep you feeling mentally well. Take the time to ask yourself often how your feeling and what you need.

15. Commit yourself to learning new things

To successfully reinvent yourself you need to commit to learning new things. You can’t change the person you are without new information.

Be a FOREVER student! The most successful people have a thirst for knowledge and commit themselves to learn new things.

There are countless ways to learn new things. Some examples are: listen to podcasts, read books (lots of them), take a course or workshop, listen to audiobooks, and/or watch educational videos on YouTube.

Get creative and do some research on ways you can learn about things you’re interested in.

Until next time friend!
